Mutter Slater: Now ... |
Mutter Slater back on stage again! |
Hailing from Bridport in Dorset at the present time, Mutter can't resist
strutting his stuff on stage again. He's put together a neat little rhythm 'n blues four piece ... |
....
and he's called it LITTLE DIXIE AND THE KIKASS RHYTHM SECTION |
He's dipped into his own favourites - Los Lobos ... Boz Scaggs, not forgetting Texan Delbert McClinton and Dwight Yoakum, and added a few of his own songs for good measure. It's all delivered with the fine panache of old, with himself on lead vocals, rhythm guitar and deliciously tasty flute... |
...
ably supported by Richard Edwards on lead guitar, Chris Lonegan on bass and Ady Milward on
drums. When Robby MacKintosh or Ben Walters - boogie piano player - are in the
South West, Chris and Ady are to be found on stage with them. "What's it like, then?" I hear you ask. Well, Thrasher Extraordinaire Andy Lambowski ventured forth into the nether regions of Dorset in October this year to hear the Great Man at work. Here's part of his review ... |
"... the band are pounding into the first of many a storming R 'n
B number. As soon as it finishes we're into "I'm On Your Side" and
then"Monkeying Around". Mutter's voice is strong and suited to these
songs. He sustains it through two and a half hours. He's the man, and the band
are tight. His guitar work is brisk and confident. But the real, real surprise
is the flute work. He uses it in place of a guitar break - rapid notes, staccatoing
out, sharp edged, virulent. I'd recently been listening to that wonderful solo
of his on the "Unearthed" Purple Spaceships but even that hasn't prepared
me for this total command and control." |
